Emergency Crews Responding to Collision at Young Champions Daycare
All roads have reopened.
At the time of the collision, there were 18 children and two adults inside Young Champions Daycare. No children were injured.
Two adults sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital. The injured individuals were a daycare employee and the driver of the vehicle.
The Stony Plain Fire Department rescued the daycare employee from the rubble and extricated the driver from the vehicle.
The Town thanks the employees of Young Champions Daycare, emergency responders, and partner agencies for their swift actions throughout this incident. We also thank residents, businesses, and motorists for avoiding the area and for their patience and cooperation.
As this is now an active RCMP investigation, no further updates will be provided by the Town.
Anyone with dashcam or video footage from the area of 48 Street and 50 Avenue between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. is asked to contact the Parkland RCMP non-emergency line at 825-220-7267.
ATCO Gas has successfully shut off the gas supply, and there is no longer a risk associated with the damaged gas line. Repair work will continue.
Residents who were evacuated as a precaution have been cleared to return home.
All children who were relocated to the Stony Plain Community Centre have now been picked up by their parents or guardians.
Current road closures and traffic restrictions remain in effect while RCMP and traffic analysts continue their investigation. Stony Plain Enforcement Services continues to assist with traffic management in the area.
The Stony Plain Fire Department will remain on scene until the incident scene has been cleared.
Motorists are asked to continue avoiding the area. Another update will be provided once the roadways have reopened.

The Stony Plain Fire Department and emergency response partners are on scene managing the incident. Firefighters are currently conducting an emergency rescue operation involving one individual.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work safely and efficiently.
Parents of children at Young Champions Daycare are being contacted directly. Those affected are asked to follow instructions provided by daycare staff and emergency personnel.
